More winter storm scenes

It got a bit warmer today, and behold! the sun showed itself for a while. The billions of ice crystals were everywhere acting as tiny prisms, and every power line and tree limb sparkled like chandeliers.

Probably easier to enjoy if you have electric power. For some reason, we never lost ours, while many others did. LG&E is slowly bring people back online, but there are more downed powerlines after this ice storm than there were back in September when Ike did his windy drive-by on us.

I wish photographs could do justice to the beauty of these winter scenes. The range of tones is so great that rendering white snow bright white, but with some texture preserved; and maintaining some detail in the shadows, is a tall order for digital capture devices. It ain’t easy for film, either, but I didn’t shoot any of that today.

The forecast calls for warming into the mid-40’s by the end of the weekend, with rain. So all of this stuff is going into the storm drains. Pretty while it lasted.

Let’s hope everyone has juice and heat by then.
